LibreOffice is a powerful office suite. It provides a simple and intuitive interface with various editing tools. It's comprised of Writer, the word processor, Calc, the spreadsheet application, Impress, the presentation engine, Draw, a drawing and flowcharting application, Base, an database frontend, and Math for editing mathematics and formulas. It's derived from OpenOffice.org and supports the OpenDocument Formats as well as proprietary/legacy office documents.

LibreOffice 4.4 comes with a renewed UX and various design enhancements. Dialogs have been converted, menu bars redesigned, context menus enhanced, better toolbars, status bars and rulers became more user-friendly. The new monochrome Sifr icon them is now default on all platforms, and there's a new color selector, and a better integrated sidebar.
Support of OpenGL transitions in Windows, and improved implementation based on the new OpenGL framework;

The first release from the stable 4.3 branch adds significant new functionality and a refreshed VLC gui toolkit with new cross-plattform icon set. Impress supports animated 3D models and fit slides. Writer moved its navigation and added font resizing buttons, supports DrawingML, nested comments, proportive image scaling, relative and vertical text frame alignment. Calc brings smarter formula highlighting and new formula engine, text conversion models, CoinMP interfacing and a statistics wizard. OOXML, DOCX and PDF import has been improved. It also brings improvements to the start center, and initial HiDpi support, and a new Access2Base version.

Saving to old and proprietary OOo/StarOffice file formats has been removed.
Mac version doesn't bundle the mediawiki extension.

On Linux the GCJ Java variant has known issues with LibreOffice, and using OpenJDK is advised instead.
Some menu entries have been changed or added, possibly requiring users to reset customized menu settings.
